It is very common to use the Futuro Próximo in Spanish and it is very easy to use. You only need to remember the verb IR (to go) and the preposition a

(IR + a)

It is the equivalent in English to the future tense with going to: I’m going to eat, you are going to sleep, we are going to cook

 

Pronoun+Verb IR + a + verb (in infinitive form)

 


CONSTRUCTION FUTURO PRÓXIMO

  1. First, we need to remember the conjugation of the verb IR
  • Yo voy
  • Tú vas
  • Él va
  • Ella va
  • Usted va
  • Nosotros vamos
  • Ustedes van
  • Ellos van
  • Ellas van

2. So now using the formula: Verb IR + a + verb (in infinitive form)

  • Yo voy a comer (I’m going to eat)
  • Tú vas a comer (You are going to eat) informal
  • Usted va a comer (You are going to eat) formal
  • Él va a comer (He is going to eat)
  • Ella va a comer (She is going to eat)
  • Nosotros vamos a comer (We are going to eat)
  • Ustedes van a comer (You are going to eat) plural
  • Ellos van a comer (They are going to eat) masculine
  • Ellas van a comer (They are going to eat) feminine

EXAMPLE

El próximo fin de semana voy a visitar a mi familia en Bogotá, voy a tomar el bús y voy a comprar regalos para ellos. Mis padres me van a recoger en la estación de buses y juntos vamos a caminar por la ciudad y luego vamos a ver a mis abuelos. En la noche vamos a comer mi comida favorita y vamos a ir a bailar salsa al bar de mi amiga. ¿Y tú? ¿Qué vas a hacer el próximo fin de semana?

Next weekend I’m going visit my family in Bogota, I’m going to take the bus and I’m going to buy gifts for them. My parents are going to pick me up at the bus station and together we are going to walk through the city and then we are going to see my grandparents. At night we are going to eat my favorite food and we are going to go salsa dancing to my friend’s bar. And you? What are you going to do next weekend?
